I wake up before 6 am to ensure I make the most of my time with my four young children, Petra, Monash, Wolfgang and Octavia and wife Nina before I head off to work. This means making breakfast, helping to get them dressed for school and kindy as well as doing the usual chores like dishwashing and taking the bins out.

My day always begins before I arrive in the office. Every single day is different – sometimes I start the day by attending a community event or a meeting and other days I could attend a Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust charity event with my wife Nina.

As I’ve mentioned before, every day is different, and I don’t work the usual nine to five. The work day often ends after 10pm, with many night time events each week.

Before I began working in local government, I was in the Australian Defence Force Academy and learnt a lot of things, including the importance of keeping fit and healthy.

With four young kids, it’s hard to find the time to head to the gym so I use military style exercises, such as push-ups and sit-ups, to keep on top of my health at home. I also try to keep moving during the day by clocking-up at least 10,000 steps.

Even if I have a stressful or difficult day at work, coming home to my wife and kids always keeps me grounded and brings me the greatest happiness.

What is the next economic growth engine in Brisbane 2020?

I am excited to have helped progress Brisbane’s bid for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and I believe we are in the box seat to bring the world’s most exciting event to our region.
